2010-05-28 Last Coaching Session with Dr. Udani
Ivy, Lay, James and I had the last coaching session with Dr. Udani on Friday. We had lunch in one Japanese Restaurant. All of us enjoyed the lunch.
During the coaching, Dr. Udani asked us what we can do in helping our classmates, especially those who did not involve themselves much in HC. We are all links in a chain. We should help each other out and complete each other. Therefore, I would like to help James in organizing more activities in the future and try my best to persuade our classmates to join them and be an inseparable part in the event.
Concerning my purpose in life, which is a very important idea, I have figured it out. After visiting the Elderly's Home in April, I have realized the importance to love my parents. I could observe that the elderly there are all very lonely, bored. If they could choose, they would surely live with their family. They really want someone to listen to them and talk to them. They want more care and love from others, especially from their family. Therefore, I need to spend more time with my parents, care more about them. I should not let them feel lonely. I have to make them feel proud of their daughter!
Besides, I have decided to devote more of my time to do some volunteer work. Everytime, I can see and learn more from the experience. It's also a good chance to offer my help to those in need. At the same time, I can also benefit from it. So why not do so?!
Honours College is an excellent place to complete each other so as to fight for our dreams. We should build up a strong HC spirit and influence others positively.

2010-05-26 Wed Honours Forum Dialogue Series - Prof. Pang Su-Seng
On Wednesday, we were very happy to have Prof. Pang Su-Seng, a distinguished guest from the science field, to meet all of us. Before hearing his speech, I thought that he must be a very serious person. But, after listening for a short while, I can feel that he is very kind, humourous and intelligent man.
From his introductory speech, I can learn that he was very poor in the past. But he was very determined to change his life and fate, and to become a successful man in the future. He planned very well for his future and he persevered and at last he CAN achieve it! He is really a very good model for us. We should learn his attitude and work hard towards our goal.
Since he got experience of both studying and teaching in the US, he would be in a good position to advise us how we can actually "survive" there. After explaining some of our worries in studying abroad, he explained to us that we can't avoid meeting difficulties. What we can do is to solve them. We should know how, when and where to ask for help from the appropriate persons. Besides, we should also have very clear mind. We should develop the best ways to solve the problems.
Going abroad to the US is really a very good chance for us to learn and explore more. We should treasure this chance and seize the opportunities to change ourselves to be a better person.
Dear classmates, let's work hard in our final and toefl exams!!

2010-05-19 Wed HONR202 -- Last Class
This was the last lecture of our HONR202. As usual, Dr. Udani shared a song with us. It's called "Don't give up on us" by David Soul. This is a meaningful song. It conveys the message that we should not give up easily. Failure doesn't mean "the end of our life". It is just some challenges/obstacles in our life that will eventually help you grow up.We should try again next time with our whole heart and mind and we will succeed one day in the future.
After writing "Thank you note", "Encouraging note" to our classmates, this time, Dr. Udani asked us to write a "Note of Sorry". In this semester, each of us in the HONR202 class have gone through some many things together. There must be certain things that we would like to apologize to our classmates. So Dr. Udani has provided a good chance to do so. In reality, sometimes there may be some situations in which we would like to say sorry to someone. It can be a good way to apologize by writing a sorry note so that it may be less embarrassing and yet you can express your feeling to your friend.
Dr. Udani has thought of making a tradition in HC, that is, to give certain awards to our HC students based on our progress in the course during the last lecture. There are all together 10 awards, namely:
1) Focus Award (awarded to the winners of the Pik Pak Boom game)
The winners are Echo, Yolanda, Grace Kuok, Iris, Cindy, Rachel and Cathy!
2) Memory Award (awarded to the best photographer)
The winner is Michelle!
3) Mr. Fun Award (awarded to the one who has brought the most fun to the class)
The winner is Jackon!
4) Mr Motivator Award (awarded to the one who makes the most efforts to motivate his/her peers)
The winner is Steve!
5) Mr Participation Award (awarded to the one who participates actively in all the HC events)
The winner is James!
6) Mr Change Award (awarded to the one who has made meaningful change during the time in HC)
 The winner is Albert Zhang!
7) Ms Change Award (awarded to the one who has made meaningful change during the time in HC)
The winner is Polly!
8) Ms. Friendly Award (awarded to the one who is most friendly to all the classmates)
The winner is Vicky!
9) Ms Generosity Award (awarded to the one who is most generous to the classmates)
The winner is Echo (thanks for your cakes!!)
10) Ms Smile Award (awarded to the one who smiles most often)
The winner is Helen Lau!
Actually, I was quite surprised to receive the Ms Change Award. I didn't realize that I have gone through big changes during my time in HONR202. But still, I am very happy to receive this award. I would try my best to change to be a better person, a better leader! Thanks Dr. Udani for giving me this recognition! This means that this course can actually change me and shape my life. I am really glad to be one of the members in the HONR202.
Near the middle of the lecture, Dr. Udani showed us the PPT about DERAILED. Its main idea is about the importance of humility to be a leader. As in our Video Interview Project, Agnes Lam has mentioned that true leader is in people's mind. If you are a true leader, you need not to do something to emphasize to others that you are the leader. You only need to do what you are supposed to do and as long as you have the quailities, you will be recognized by your members one day.
Lastly, we had our lunch buffet at Starworld Hotel with Dr. Udani and other HC classmates. It's a nice place and we ate, chatted, and played a lot. This actually is a good chance for us to gather and sit down to share what we feel and relax before our exams. Nevertheless, after this class (and also after the 3 years in HC), we should continue to build up good friendship with our HC classmates. We should help each other whenever we are capable. We have to continue to spread our HC spirit!
Happy Birthday to Vicky!

2010-05-12 Wed HONR202 -- Twelveth Class
This class started with some words from the four brilliant FLL students! From my own observation, I strongly think that they are much more attached to the class though I know that they have very tight schedules and have all become good friends with us. It's our pleasure to have such excellent friends who have good critical thinking ability.
At the beginning of the class, Dr. Udani introduced the 'HC Clap', which is a very funny one. This only belongs to our HC class and can be used to encourage / congradulate people on everything. Dr. Udani announced the 10 Best Bloggers in class. He judged the bloggers by seeing how often they update their blog, do they relate the things learnt in the class with their everyday life experience, etc. And so here come the List of the 10 Best Bloggers:
1st - Rocky!
2nd - Christine
3rd - Polly
4th - Alvin
5th - Megka
6th - Vicky
7th - Cathy
8th - James
9th - Ivy
10th - Jackon
Congratulations to all the above classmates! I really appreciate the style how Rocky write in his blog. He really reflected a lot, combining with what he learnt in the class. I think he really deserve the first place! For me, I am a bit surprised to be the third! I am really very happy to receive this honour! In my opinion, I think this blog is really a good way for us to strengthen what we learn in class. We can think much more when we actually write down our feelings word by word. In this way, we can easily keep good track with our leadership journey.
Dr. Udani presented a PPT about "Interpersonal Skills Development" during class. There's 1 point "Link up with others" which I found it very important. It's really hard to work on your own. If you want to have good achievement, you should find someone to accomplish the tasks with you. In the real world, it's important to build up a good network with others, especially in Macau, which is a very small city. Having someone familiar can help you significantly in completing your tasks. For instance, we have such good chances to get along with all the 41 classmates in the HC. We can help each other with our skills and knowledge.
We played an interesting game in class. It is called the "Pik Pak Boom". Our class was divided into 12 groups. We have 3 to 4 members in a group. Each of us will be responsible for shouting either "Pik", "Pak", "Boom" or a number. The number refers to the group number and by calling the number, we will pass from one group to the other.Once the game started, our class got very excited. We had set a rule that the first 6 groups who lost in the game would need to treat the whole class some snacks. Near the end of the game, it's impossible for us to decide who will be the eventual winner, this is simply because all the members in the 2 groups are very patient and did not make a single mistake. So, at last, we announed the 2 groups would both win in this game. This game is used to train people to become more attentive, endurant and patient.
Time really flies, we have nearly come to the end of our HONR202 course. We only got 2 more classes to go. To be frank, this class really takes me a lot of time and efforts, but when I look back, I can see that all my efforts paid off. I did learn a lot of things that I couldn't learn from elsewhere. I also become friends with all my dear classmates. Thanks Dr. Udani for giving us all those "challenges" and "opportunities" for us to grow to be a better person! Let's treasure the remaining 2 classes and don't be absent!! Look forward to the lunch buffet at Starworld Hotel on next Friday!

2010-05-08 "CAN" Workshop - path to leadership
"You can be what you dream of..."
CAN stands for:
Creative
Attitude
Network
Our efforts finally paid off. The whole process was one for us to learn and grow, where happiness, knowledge and friendship could be found. The smiles on the participants' faces are the motivation for us to work hard! In my mind, I believe that this workshop can be considered as a success. During the process, everyone of us contributed a lot. The cooperation, vision, consideration of each of the members and the participants gave rise to this successful workshop.
During the planning stage, we didn't know how to start. Luckily, our group leader, Helen Lau, facilitated us and we alogether thought of a framework. Thanks for her great devotions in this workshop.
Rehearsal
Until last Wednesday, after we had attended the "IF" workshop, I started to get a bit worried (maybe a bit jealous?). I was really impressed by the good atmosphere that their group had brought to the participants. I believed that everyone enjoyed a lot in the "IF" workshop. We were afraid that our group couldn't do as well as theirs. So, we strived to work very hard for the remaining days. We spent lots of time trying to improve every single part of our workshop. We rehearsed on last Friday. We discovered some potential problems and discussed together to find out the solutions. But, the most terrible thing we encountered was that we could only confirmed around 15 participants who would be coming to our workshop, at around 9 c'clcok at night before the actual day of our workshop! So, we got very nervous and tried our best to call for more participants. Luckily, we could at last found up to around 25 participants. This was a good lesson for us. We should improve in the future to ensure the coming of the participants.
Introduction and Orientation
On the day of our workshop, I was a bit nervous. I was responsible for 2 parts in the task accomplishment section. It was the first time that I was responsilbe in leading a game. This was really a very good experience. I understand that this is not an easy task. You have to think of the whole rundown, prepartion materials, speech, the response from the participants, etc. You also have to anticipate for the unexpected. Like in the workshop, I actually changed the original rundown a lot because we were a bit out of time. In the whole process from preparation to the end of the activity, there were many things that we could learn and reflect.

Drama and Tower Building Acticity
The True Winner!
To sum up, this leadership workshop was a milestone for our HC class 2012. This is such a meaningful activity in a way that benefited HC students, participants and the Honours College. Of course, there are still rooms of improvement. For example, we should do better in time management. Here, I would like to thank Dr. Udani for giving us the chance to make this workshop come true, thank for the cooperation among our group members, thank the participants for giving us the chance to practice our leadership skills, and a lot more thanks to many other people... Without anyone of you, our workshop would not be a success!
I love you all (of course including the "IF" group!)
HC Class 2012, let's walk along on the road of leadership! We CAN do it!
